Restriction Orifice Sizing

Be The First To Comment
These flow meters can successfully monitor a wide variety of fluids under diverse conditions if you select the right orifice shape and the type of pressure taps.

orifice meter measuring pressure at a particular flow rate

To control an industrial process, it is essential to know the amount of material entering and leaving key process steps. To monitor this, the engineer can choose from a wide variety of flow meters. Despite this wealth of choice, simple orifice meters are often selected because of their low cost, compactness, and suitability for a wide range of flow rates.

Traced and Jacketed Piping

1.1 Traced Lines

The temperature of the process liquids being transferred through pipelines often must be maintained to meet the requirements of a process, to prevent thickening and solidification, or simply as an anti-frost measure. This is achieved by the use of jacketed pipes; or by attaching to the product line one or more separate tracer lines carrying a heating medium such as steam or hot water.

The steam usage may be relatively small but the tracing system is often a major part of the steam installation, and the source of many of the problems. Many large users and plant contractors have their own inhouse rules for tracer lines, but the following guide-lines may be useful in other cases.

Regulations Pertaining to Storage, Usage of Hazardous Chemicals

Various chemicals, flammable liquids and gases are extremely, important to our modern way of life and constitute a major volume of present day commerce. Billions of gallons of highly’ flammable liquids and hazardous chemicals are manufactured and marketed with a high degree of safety. On the other hand many fires leading to injury and death result from improper storage and use of flammable liquids, especially in and around the house or in small business premises. The difference lies in realizing how hazardous the materials are and the application of safe procedures.

Piping Engineering Statutory/State and Local Body Regulations

A. Chief Controller of Explosives (CCE or CCOE)

i. These are statutory rules and come under the purview of Chief Controller of Explosives based in Nagpur. This is a Central Government Authority for whole of India. The regional offices of ‘CCE’ are located in each region. However, these regional offices do not have authority to approve the installations. They can only be consulted on matters relating to these regulations. The Authority for approval of the installations is vested only in the Chief Controller of Explosives (CCE) based in Nagpur.

ii. All liquid hydrocarbons (and some of the non-hydrocarbons as per the list available in the CCE’s Nagpur and other Regional Offices) falling in classes A, B, & C are required to be stored as per these rules. Hence the storages falling under the purview of these rules must be segregated from other flammable I non flammable liquids at the plot plan stage itself. This is a must from space allocation point of view also as the’ CCE’ storages require lot of space.
